Hey San Diego & La Mesa, what’s your Walk Score??

Walk scores are becoming very popular when it comes to making home buying choices, as many people enjoy being able to take a quick jaunt to go fetch their morning coffee, or walk to a nearby restaurant or shopping.

Walk Score ranks the most walkable neighborhoods and larger cities throughout the US. Overall, San Diego’s Walk Score is only 51, however when you consider the numerous neighborhoods within the city, you’ll see a huge difference, for example, North Park has a walk score of 81. This handy website also now includes transit scores and bike scores.

In East County, Santee has a walk score of 33, but of course if you visit Santee Lakes you’ll be doing nothing but walking!

La Mesa’s walk score is 56, so if you’re looking for a home in La Mesa, please consider how many healthy outdoor activities and events happen right here, all the time.

If you live in Windsor Hills or anywhere near La Mesa Village, you can saunter over to Downtown La Mesa whenever you’re in the mood for food, music, antiques, wine tasting, classic cars or other seasonal festivities. There’s also an Art Walk, where you can see all the brightly painted utility boxes, and all the wonderful stores throughout La Mesa Village.

If you live farther away from restaurants, for example in Mt Helix, you can still hike to the top of Mt Helix and enjoy amazing 360 degree panoramic views from the ocean to Mexico, and to the north and east too. Look for signs posted for the rousing New Year’s hike up the hill, too.

If you live in North La Mesa or near the Village or Grossmont Mall, you can hop on the bright red Trolley, and catch a ride all the way downtown, and you can walk to urban eateries or enjoy the ocean breezes at Seaport Village.

Walk and Talk La Mesa happens every month on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 9AM. These healthy outings last 1-2 hours and cover different territory; please call 619-667-1333 for information and updates. The 1st and 3rd Tuesdays offer a late afternoon outing. There’s also the  Urban Walking Map with suggested routes for different levels of fitness walkers.

And don’t forget the Secret Stairs of La Mesa an amazing 245 step climb to an elevation of 830 feet, with an awesome view!  Start your journey at Windsor and Canterbury Drives.

La Mesa homes are surrounded by great opportunities to create your own awesome walk score!
